The Spirit of Survival Half Marathon is a USATF certified course that features a challenging distance that many can walk, run or walk/run with 8-12 weeks preparation.
The race begins and ends in historic Elmer Thomas Park on 3rd Street and Ferris Avenue, winding through Downtown and East Lawton. The half marathon features a down and back course which offers a slight elevation advantage on the return trip which lends itself well to negative splits!
The course features themed aid stations every mile, with port-a-potties, entertainment, fun and inspiration along the way!
Entrants must be 12 years of age or older on race day to register for the Half Marathon. Parents should exercise caution when allowing younger teens run this distance.
The start line is located at 3rd Street and Ferris Avenue in Elmer Thomas Park.
Streets are closed and controlled by law enforcement for 4.5 hours; however, later finishers will be supported.
All SOS Events will be electronically timed. Per USATF Rule 245.1, Open Men’s and Women’s and Master Men’s and Women’s top three awards in the Marathon and the Half Marathon will be based on gun time (the order in which the athletes cross the finish line). Age group and Relay awards will be based on timing system time (the actual time elapsed between an athlete reaching the starting line and finish line).
All runners receive an official commemorative SOS technical shirt, commemorative race bib, athlete bag, on-course race support—food and beverages, medical care, if needed and post-race massages and finisher’s medal.
